Softshell jackets are the perfect outer shell all year round. They can bead a bit of water and provide a decent amount of wind resistance. If the weather is turning really foul, you can unfurl a hood out of the collar. Equipped with a light fleece lining they provide a decent amount of warmth yet still lightweight enough you can do some high intensity activities during Winter. To aid with this they also have armpit zippers and a full length front opening for ventilation.
